Tammy summons a light orb about the size of an orange.

The energy ball floats above her palm, giving off both light as well as a sense of comfort… almost like a pet cat or dog rubbing its head against her side to cheer her up. Delving into an underground ruin in a swimsuit definitely feels a bit weird, though not as weird as it might have if she hadn’t spent a second childhood growing up around faeries—who had no use for clothing other than decorative weaving of flowers and leaves.

She continues into the dark depths, following the source of the magical energy flowing out to the giant.

The passageway forces them into single file, being too narrow to do anything else. It isn’t the tallest space in the world, but has enough headspace that none of them have to duck. Allison keeps her hand on Tammy’s shoulder, almost like a blind person being led by a guide.

“It’s so dark in here,” whispers Paxton, her voice wavering.

“Just keep holding my hand,” says Allison.

“Trust me, I may never let go of it again.”

Allison chuckles.

“You could have waited outside if you want,” says Tammy.

“Umm, all alone? No thanks. What if those crazy people come back?”

Allison gives a brief sigh. “Remember, they didn’t want you guys. They wanted Sam. Their ritual required the blood of an immortal being be spilled on the ground here.”

“Not a sacrifice?” asks Tammy.

“Nah. It’s quite literal. Spill a little blood and you’re good. Then again, activating those giants is not a good thing to anyone who is sane.”

Tammy picks up her pace to a fast walk. It doesn’t seem likely there will be traps or anything dangerous down here. These passages had been sealed up and buried for probably a thousand years or more. Even if this place decided to get all Indiana Jones on them, the movies were unrealistic. Mechanisms left for that long would surely have fallen apart by now. She doesn’t care too much about poison darts. That she could fix. Small, or even moderate injuries she could also magically heal. As long as an ax didn’t drop out of the ceiling and cut her head off, she should be able to put herself and the others back together.

Just as Allison starts to protest that Tammy’s going too fast, the corridor opens into a vast chamber. She holds her faerie light out and up, illuminating an almost-round room. In the shifting weak light from her spell, it remains unclear if the builders intentionally made an oval room or simply failed at circles. More than a dozen other passages led outward in various directions all around the edge of the central chamber.

At the center, a knee-high stone platform holds a massive amethyst crystal carved in the shape of another Easter Island head, but only five feet tall. It gives off a faint glowing aura that coalesces into two trails of vaporous power. One such trail, the brighter of the two, wavers and flutters in the direction of the hallway that the group entered from.
